God forgives, Karma doesn't
Dear Daisy,
My Dad's an awesome story teller. When I was a kid, he told me that there's always someone who's watching over us (Well, I still believe that one!) and that there's this big book in which all our records are maintained. All our good deeds fetch us points, but whenever we do something bad, points will be taken off. Since I was a little girl who believed in magic and angels and all, so he added, that when I'll reach a thousand points I'll become an angel myself. And I truly believed that. So, everyday when he returned from his office, we would sit together to calculate how much points did I earn that day. My brother and I almost fought every day, like most of the siblings do. So even if I earned points for things like helping Mom or completing my homework in time or by just being a good kid in general, all my points would get deducted because I fought with my brother and cried and got angry. We kept on doing this until one day when I got frustrated and told dad, "I don't think that my brother will ever let me become an angel.". My Dad laughed and said, "Nobody can earn or loose points for you. You are the one, solely responsible for your deeds". I never understood it then, coz as for me, my brother was to be blamed. Well, in my defence I was just a six year old. I soon forgot all of this coz I grew up and stopped believing.![]() |

While I was going out for some work today, I noticed a homeless asking for some money. Unfortunately he was disabled too. The first thing that popped up in my mind was, " God help him." and then I thought, "Why? What has he ever done to deserve this?". I thought for a long time and then suddenly I remembered Dad's story. Maybe he was paying for something bad that he did. I know, you must be thinking that I'm the rudest person on earth. That saying something like this is so insensitive.
But all of you must have heard, "Karma bites back" . There's a lot of things that seem wrong to the untrained eye like ours. But if you believe in a higher power then I think we should trust HIM. HE keeps an account of everything and HE knows everything. It all depends whether you are a believer or not. I believe that everything happens for a reason. It's just that we can't and are not supposed to see or know the reason. Maybe this is our test...having faith even when you don't see a reason why.Do you believe in Karma?

Dear Ani,
ReplyDeleteYour story took me back to my childhood and my sibling rivalry days (Ok, we still fight a lot. 😂)
I could draw almost parallels between your story and mine. It was fun, all the innocence and hope back then. That a good deed never goes unrewarded. Thank you for making me remember that.
And yes, karma never forgets. We may not be able to change our past, but that only means that we get to have a single minded focus on making our present right.
Who knows, your future may turn out to be so much better than you imagined. Courtesy- your karma.
I read somewhere...how others treat you is their karma, how you react is yours...so it is true that we are solely responsible for our deeds...be good and kind.... :)
